It has been a stressful year for everyone, and through this time we need to be taking care of ourselves both mentally and physically. Here are some helpful tips:

Meditation
Living in such uncertain times is causing a great deal of stress and anxiety. Meditation is
a powerful technique to help calm your nervous system, leading to a state of relaxation for your mind and body.

Meditation can help with:
– Blood pressure
– Pain
– Anxiety
– Depression

If you are new to mediation, I highly recommend going on YouTube and trying a 10 or 20-minute beginner guided meditation and increase the time from there. I often hear from people that “meditation doesn’t work for me”, “I get anxious when I try to meditate” or “I can’t turn off my brain”. I promise you that everyone starts out like this. With consistent practice, it gets easier and easier.

Exercise
This can come in many forms such as walking, lifting weights, hiking, running, yoga, and Pilates.

Exercise can help with:
– Weight loss
– Stroke risk
– Blood pressure
– Energy

Sleep
7-9 hours is recommended for adults. Parents know that this can be a struggle with the children, but do your best. If you are struggling to sleep, regular physical activity, as mentioned above, can help you fall asleep faster and even deepen your sleep. Try not to exercise too close to bedtime or you may be too energized to fall asleep.
